AFTD staff provided FTD education and spoke about practical approaches to FTD caregiving during an April 20 virtual event hosted by Arden Courts Memory Care Community.

AFTD Senior Director of Programs Sharon Denny, MA, and Support and Education Director Esther Kane, BSN, RN-CDP, joined Kelly Lippincott and Sue Hirsch of ProMedica Memory Care, the parent company of Arden Courts, for a presentation and a question-and-answer session. The discussion included an overview of FTD, how it differs from other dementia types, and ways to provide care for persons diagnosed with the disease.

The webinar also included information about the neuropathology of FTD, a breakdown of the FTD subtypes and their related symptoms, recent advances in FTD research, and an in-depth look at a case study of a person diagnosed with behavioral variant FTD.

Denny and Kane also shared their insights on the barriers to achieving an FTD diagnosis, ways the disease impacts families, and resources that are available for families and professionals.
