People in their 50s and 60s are increasingly being diagnosed with non-Alzheimer’s forms of dementia, including frontotemporal degeneration, the Washington Post reported in an article published December 6.

“No one knows whether these conditions are becoming more common or doctors are better at diagnosing them,” science journalist Jamie Talan writes in the article.

Talan mentions research being done through ALLFTD, an longitudinal study of FTD that is currently underway in nearly 20 research sites across the U.S. and Canada. In October, Dr. Nupur Ghoshal of Washington University in St. Louis, one of the ALLFTD sites, presented a session on ALLFTD during the World FTD Marathon.

The article quotes numerous leading FTD researchers, including two members of AFTD’s Medical Advisory Council (MAC): M.-Marsel Mesulam, MD, of Northwestern University, and Bradford C. Dickerson, MD, of Harvard University. Dr. Dickerson is Chair Elect of the AFTD MAC.
