Help & Support: Rethinking Palliative Care – A New Approach to Managing FTD
Did you know that AFTD publishes a quarterly newsletter, Partners in FTD Care, designed to be a comprehensive and authoritative resource for FTD education and support? In our most recent issue, we provide a detailed examination of how palliative care can support those living with FTD and their care partners.
Palliative care is specialized medical care for those living with serious medical conditions that focuses on promoting quality of life. Care can be provided in a variety of settings and is focused on management of both physical and non-physical symptoms, open discussions about care goals and treatment choices, and coordination among all members of the person’s healthcare team.
In this issue of Partners, we are introduced to Mary S., diagnosed with FTD at 54, and her adult sons. The issues follows Mary’s story as she and her family navigate complex care issues and find support from a palliative care team. The accompanying fact sheet, “What to Do About…” details how families and care providers can learn more about palliative care services for people living with FTD. You can access the Winter 2020 issue of Partners in FTD Care here.
