The athlete of the month for August is James Staten. In the fall of 2020, James was diagnosed with PPA, and decided to get involved in advancing AFTD’s mission by participating in the AFTD-Team 2020 Race Season. Due to COVID-19-related cancelations of in-person events, he deferred his participation to 2021. This fall, James will run in the Philadelphia, Denver, and Dallas half-marathons as a member of the AFTD-Team. Through his fundraising efforts, James has raised $7,375 and counting in support of AFTD’s mission!

While James trains for his upcoming races, he tracks his miles for the AFTD-Team on the Charity Miles app. Since joining the app in March 2021, he’s logged over 1,850 miles in support of AFTD in his home state of California. James says, “People say that physical exercise and activities are so good for those of us with FTD. If getting active for AFTD also helps spread FTD awareness, that is great!”
