News Report Offers Tips, Resources for Dementia Care in the Home
Sixty percent of people receiving home-care services are living with dementia, according to a WEAU 13 News report that focuses on the care partners who play a major role in providing those services.
In a segment aired November 6, the Wisconsin-based station provides tips and resources to those providing at-home care for persons diagnosed with dementia. Lisa Wells, a Dementia Care Specialist at the Aging and Disability Resource Center in Eau Claire, WI, emphasizes how important it is for care partners to both educate themselves and plan for the future.
She also highlights the DICE Approach, which stands for Describe, Investigate, Create, and Evaluate. This approach can help care partners identify and manage the causes of behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia, as further outlined in AFTD’s recent Partners in Care newsletter.
“We want people in the home for as long as possible,” Wells said in the video. “If we can give caregivers that support and those tools to help it can be a great benefit to both.”
You can watch the video and read more about the report on the WEAU 13 website.
