“Chasing Rainbows” Play Debuts in Portland, Raises Funds for AFTD’s Mission

Bob Powers performed his one person show "Chasing Rainbows" in Portland in honor of his late husband, Donald, and to raise money for AFTD's mission

Stage actor Bob Powers debuted his one-person play Chasing Rainbows: A Story of Love, Loss, and Finding Purpose with two performances on August 19 and 20 at the Coho Theater in Portland, Oregon.

Powers wrote Chasing Rainbows in honor of his husband, Donald, who was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia in 2013 and died in 2021. Act I shares how Bob and Donald fell in love with the language and culture of Italy, before recounting Donald’s diagnosis and experience with PPA in act II.

The show was a success, attracting audience members from across the country and being nearly sold out on both nights. Ticket proceeds from the play raised nearly $15,000 in support of AFTD’s mission.

Powers is set to perform Chasing Rainbows again at the Clocktower Cabaret in Denver, Colorado January 18.

Bob Powers was a speaker at AFTD’s 2022 Education Conference, joining a panel to discuss the diverse experiences of care partners. A video of the panel can be found on YouTube.
